"I'm worried about Danny —
I'm not sure he has even one positive
person in his life."
3rd Grade Teacher writing about an 8-year-old foster child in her class

For too many children, foster care is a lonely experience. Many bounce from one placement to the next or live in group homes or institutions. The result? Thousands of foster children 'graduate' to the streets or to prison before they are out of their teens.

Research shows that at-risk children make progress in every area (academic, social, and family life) after just one year of a positive mentoring experience.

Reaching Hurting Kids
Royal Family KIDS Clubs offers a way to mentor foster children at a critical developmental stage (ages 7-11) and build healthy new patterns that can change their lives. Our PILOT PROGRAM offers an intensive, year round program through multi-denominational neighborhood churches - with no fees charged to foster families - in a 2-step process.

SUMMER: Royal Family Kids Camp, free 5-day residential summer camps with one counselor for every 2 children. They build a week of positive memories.

SCHOOL YEAR: We launched a mentoring program. RFK campers now have the chance to join Royal Family KIDS Clubs/Mentoring for Foster Kids. They get a full school year of 1-to-1 mentoring (4 hours each month) from a trained adult, PLUS monthly club meetings and field trips.

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child..."

Becoming a Mentor
If you have a heart for abused kids and want to invest in their lives, Royal Family KIDS can give you the training, resources and help for a successful experience with a child who needs you!

Mentors Make A Child's Camp Experience Last All Year Long!

You can help a foster child who attended Royal Families KIDS Camp in one of our pilot project areas build on their positive memories. Here is what Royal Friends' Clubs offers to mentors:
Specialized Training - EVERY mentor receives 12-15 hours of camp counselor training on child abuse and safety issues PLUS a specialized 1 day mentoring workshop on how to build ongoing relationships with children of abuse.
•Flexible Scheduling - Plan your four hours together to fit your own schedule. Some of you will want a weekly hour with your foster child. Others will prefer to meet for a longer time twice a month.
Boundaries - Mentors make a commitment to serve one academic year with the option of choosing whether to mentor again the following year.
Support - Each club has a Mentoring Director to consult with you about your relationship with your matched child and will meet with you and other mentors in regular Cohort Round Tables to share questions. In addition, the club has support volunteers to plan group activities for the mentors and mentees.
Resources - Workbooks, games and materials are available to Royal Family KIDS Clubs and Mentors.
